Hi all. I’m confused about how to do the following:
I need to bring Videosync’s signal into a custom maxforlive device for miscellaneous git.gl processing, then back into Videosync again for more processing. How do I setup jit.syphonserver and jit.syphonclient in maxforlive? I can’t get it right… Is using an external app like Syphon Recorder or OBS absolutely necessary? And if so, is sending the initial Videosync signal to a return track the only way to go?
Has anyone been successful in setting this up? Thanks in advance for thinking along.
I personally have no experience receiving Syphon in Max/Jitter, only the other way around. I just posted a device that does this in this thread, perhaps you can take a look at that as an example.
It’s been quite a while since I last touched that device though, and this is more of a Max support question, so I recommend asking around on Max Discord channel. Hopefully there is someone there with a bit more experience on this matter
Thanks a lot for that link, Jean Paul.
Unfortunately, I have to establish that this is not working for me on my M1 (Live 11.3.35 with bundled Max version) running Videosync 2 Alpha (see screenshot) and that is consistent with all my earlier findings while trying to get jitter into VS!
Would you agree that this could just as well be a VS as a Jitter issue?
I apologise for posting this in the VS section rather than in the VS Alpha but initially my question was not an issue relating to the alpha only, rather a request for ideas of possible approaches…
I did a little more digging; it turns out Syphon inputs are broken for External In with the 2.0.4 Alpha. If you use 2.0.3, you should see the text appear in Videosync as expected.
The broken input might have been my problem all along - for weeks, I couldn’t get it to work, while I could with VS1… What do you suggest next, JP? I never used 2.03 before and I cannot find a download. I have the impression it was never released as alpha. And will it still work with all the FX & instruments? Thnx.
That’s correct, 2.0.3 went straight to public release!
I would always recommend using the public release version of Videosync for serious work, and only use the Alpha for testing new features. The Alpha is our testing ground, and things may break there from time to time.
It is no problem to have both the public release as well as the Alpha installed on your machine. You can even run them side by side to compare them.
2.0.3 is the latest public release at the time of writing this, so you can download it from the main Videosync website, here. To see what the latest public release is, you can find release notes on this page.
Got it. Sorry, before I clicked on the shortcut in my dock, which of course turned out to be the 2.0.4 version I had been using all the time…
But now, I will start testing the in and out capabilities seriously and will report.
Thanks a lot for your help.
