Are there any videos that walk through and explain the demo session? I’m new at programming lights and want to make sure I do everything the most efficient way possible. I’m really just confused on the routing of the outputs in Beam. In the demo, the “Spot Moving Heads” track seems to be sending signals to multiple lights at once, at times with no midi and no visible automation at points in the session. Trying to understand where that’s coming from and how to replicate it in my own session, but there are very few videos that really break down the program.
Hey @calmfancy,
There are currently 3 main ways to generate lighting signals with Beam for Live:
- Beam Instrument Devices: parameter values (these can be static, automated, controlled with a MIDI controller or modulated using a Live Modulator device)
- Beam Instrument Devices: triggering lighting parameter envelopes with MIDI notes
- Beam Effect Devices: modulating lighting signal generated by Instrument Devices
In the demo, the “Spot Moving Heads” track seems to be sending signals to multiple lights at once, at times with no midi and no visible automation at points in the session.
The Spot Moving Heads track in the Demo Set uses all three of the above. When something is happening and you don’t see any MIDI notes or related automation, it is probably generated by the LFO effect device, which can Add or Multiply values to the existing lighting signal values.
Trying to understand where that’s coming from and how to replicate it in my own session, but there are very few videos that really break down the program.
Making more tutorial videos is on our list! In the meanwhile, here are some places where you can learn about Beam:
