Why does the generic instrument not take midi?

I am wondering why the generic instrument does not allow trigger by midi note?

This is the instrument with the most power when controlling for example moving heads which have many parameters such as Iris or colour wheel which would be useful to control with an LFO or enevelope follower, while the actual intensity of the light is triggered by a midi note.

Is there any workaround for this?

Hey there! It does work with MIDI, but you’ll need to set one of the envelopes to control dim.
