Ran into another weird issue where, only on a couple songs, the video was super choppy and unresponsive - long troubleshooting later, I found a consistency: the issue only happens when Ableton’s BPM is above 160. If I set the master tempo on the songs having trouble to 160 or lower, no problem then.
My question for the group here is if there’s any prior known issue with that - be it software, or even hardware limitations, or whatever.
Ah, there we go, looks like that is the issue. It does run smooth on the local machine.
I have a “set up” measure in the songs at 80 BPM, before it changes to the actual speed - I suspected that would be related since it was a perfect 2x, but couldn’t figure out how.
I tried bumping that up to 90 BPM to test, and after re-warping the video clips, it looks to be working, so definitely an issue with more than double BPM, as you mention.
That’s very interesting. We were aware of this being an issue in the past, but I have just come to the realization that this seems to be fixed and correlating to a version of macOS. On macOS Sonoma playback is as expected when the master tempo goes over the double (or under half) of the clip’s BPM. I have tested with 10.15 Catalina, which also shows the choppy playback, so it seems to be a problem with any version of macOS older than Sonoma (and possibly Ventura, I have no way to test that at the moment).
So I assume that when you’ll update your Mac Mini to Ventura or Sonoma, playback would remain smoothly again.
