Hey everyone and hey Jean-Paul,
so far I use and love Videosync mainly in the arranger view. Thinking about how to get more hands on and live I immediately miss the small preview pictures that apps like Resolume provide.
I think one good solution to this could be sending the video to the Push 2 Display. What I love would be to have four tracks/layers be displayed side by side on the Push 2.
Has that been done before or has anyone a hint at how to do that? Also would that be a workflow/feature that would be interesting for the developers to add?
Hey Philipp!
As far as I’m aware it is impossible to display “custom content” on Push’s display. Hopefully it will be one day, but for now it’s simply not possible for third party developers to control what’s shown on Push’s display.
Something else you could try is using 4 Return Tracks, sending your four layers to them, and then receive them in a multitude of Simple Client applications, so you can view the layers side by side in separate windows.
Hey Jean-Paul,
the Push2 has a very deep script which makes it usable in Bitwig called Push4Bitwig. And while the graphics displayed are nowhere near as pretty as the original ones, I would guess they are an example of “custom content” on the Push display? Or am I missing something here?
And thanks for your input, I will try that!
Yes, that definitely counts as “custom content”
. Push4Bitwig works by replacing Ableton’s control surface script with a completely custom one, which lets them take over the display. That approach essentially bypasses Push’s built-in integration and repurposes the device from the ground up.
That isn’t a direction we’re looking to take. As far as we can tell, showing fully custom video or graphics on the Push display from within Live/Max for Live isn’t a supported workflow for 3rd-party devices. While there is a display interface and there are some community hacks, they rely on unofficial methods. So unless Ableton exposes this directly for Max for Live in the future, it’s not something we can reliably support.
