Hi there, I have a minor issue when looping video in legato mode. Only when I switch scenes, the first frame of a video gets displayed for the time of a frame. After that it plays from the expected point in time. When I restart the same scene instead of switching to the next one, it does exactly, what it should. I have this issue only with one certain video and ask myself, what I could do about it. The video format is 640x480 25fps in a m4v container and has a length of 80 seconds. Thanks in advance.
Hi there, and welcome to the forum!
I have a few questions:
- What versions of Live and Videosync are you using?
- Are you on Windows or macOS?
- What is the codec of the video you’re using?
- Would you be able to share the specific video you are experiencing this issue with?
As a workaround for now, you could try to pull the video through a converter (h264, mp4) to see if the problem persists.
Thank you for welcoming me and thanks for your answer!
I use the latest version of Live Suite and the latest version of Videosync. I’m on an M1 MacBookPro with the newest OS. The video codec is h264. Unfortunately I’m not able to share the video. Will try the conversion.
Reactivating the Topic. My Problem hasn’t been solved. With some help by claud a.i. I’ve tried some workarounds. Obviously it isn’t a codec issue, as I’ve tried mpeg, h264, and hap. The issue remains. I am looping the video in warp mode (tried all of the modes) with legato on. When switching the scene I get 2 black frames, then the first frame of the video and then as expected the correct legato position.
I’m on a MacBook Pro 13" M1, MacOS 26.5.2, Ableton Live Suite 12.4.1, Videosync Intro 2.1.11.
Since your original post we received another report of this issue, after which I properly understood the issue and logged it internally. It turns out that continuous video clip playback by using Legato Mode simply isn’t supported at this time, and unfortunately it looks like this will not be picked up anytime in the near future.
Can I ask what your exact use case for Legato Mode is in this case? If the main reason is that you want continuous video clip playback while applying different automation/modulation envelopes to the video by using different clip instances, then you could consider the following workaround:
- Instead of using Legato Mode, remove the clip stop buttons in places where you’d like to switch scenes but continue playback of the respective clip.
- Add a MIDI track, and add an External In instrument to it. Set it to Track mode, and select the track on which the video clips are playing.
- Mute the Audio track on which the video clips are playing.
- Add any desired effects to the External In track, and apply your automation/modulation envelopes in MIDI clips.
Hey Jean-Paul,
This is exactly what I want to achieve. I totally forgot about the possibility to remove stop buttons. That will absolutely serve my intention. Thanks for that elegant workaround suggestion.
Have a good time!
