LiveSync global quantise desynchronisation

Whilst using livesync 3.1 to synchronise two projects with tempo changes and time-sig changes I have run into a problem where the global quantise setting in Ableton can cause a displacement between the two machines (ie. Perfectly synchronised but displaced by, for example, 1 whole bar).

Weirdly on my first attempt everything behaved with quantise set to a bar, but upon starting rehearsals today, the same setting caused the two machines to be displaced by a bar and it took a while to figure out that turning global quantise to “none” has fixed the issue at least for now. My concern is that the same setting may not behave next time (since this was the case with having it set to “one bar”)

Why might this happen, how can we reliably avoid it? These synchronised machines are mission critical for the show.

This has been solved by identifying a couple of issues.

  1. Ableton Link was not identifying the follower machine (but the follower recognised the leader) so global quantise was only occurring on the follower, resulting in the 1 bar desync. Fixing this required reassigning IP addresses.

  2. turning global quantise to “none” didn’t entirely solve the problem but was a quick and dirty workaround that leaves you at the mercy of your network latency which caused problems after I posted this.

New to this forum so I’m not sure of the etiquette, but any moderator that sees this is welcome to archive it (or whatever the procedure is for solved posts)

Thanks for posting your issue and following up Matt.

I’d say we can leave this post here in case anyone else runs into the same issue.
