Hello!
I’m in the process of designing an audio-reactive laser, lights and visuals show to go with my music. I’m an electronic music artist, mainly house / bassline / dubstep / drum’n’bass.
I got a digital art degree many years ago and used to be a vj and lighting designer in clubs.
For my live show I have 6 audio tracks within Ableton containing audio clips and loops of tracks I have produced. I want each of these channels to feed an audio-reactive lights and projection show. I have specific ideas of looks I want to achieve but the overall vibe is that the lighting and projections rig directly represents what is happening in the music so that it becomes like a visual instrument to entrance the audience. I also plan to create four or five moments within the show that showcase how the light/lasers/projection rig is audio reactive, by playing a solo instrument, solo voice and letting the entire rig react to just that. The music is bouncey, upbeat and dancey, so the visual and light show will also be, encouraging people to dance and get excited.
I recently came across the work done for ‘Feed Me’ using Showsync softwares. I also watched all the videos on the ‘History of Showsync’ blog post and the link between the music and lights and visuals is very strong and inspiring for me. Previously I thought the best way to achieve my goal was using Touchdesigner or Madmapper but now I think Showsync softwares in combination with Ableton M4L plugins could be the answer.
For my show the projection is secondary to the lighting. There will be 16 - 30 moving heads, these are the main players. Their movement, beam width, colour and prism settings will be intricately reactive to the music. There will be no large screen behind me when I perform. I will use smoke, haze and mesh as the projection surfaces and the main surface will be above the dancefloor. I will have RGB lasers in line with the video projectors.
I would really like to connect with the programmers and operators who worked on the ‘Feed Me With Teeth’ productions to understand more of how they used Beam and Videosync and to start putting a team together who can collaborate with me on my show.
Thanks!
