Hi there.
Often, we find ourselves working on projects without a second screen attached. But also when this is the case, it would be very convenient to fix the output screen ratio via a preset. 16:9, of course but also others and legacy ratios, such as 4:3. This could possibly be implemented via a Photoshop-style “fixed ratio” option?
Thanks
Hey JB, thanks for the feature request! We already have a ticket about something like this in our backlog.
Hi Jean-Paul.
I was wondering whether this is still in the pipeline?
Thanks in advance,
JB
Hi!
When putting the ‘render settings’ to for instance 1920x1080 or 640x480 the output screen can be resized while the ratio will always remain the same. I think I understand from the questions here that this is not sufficient. Would an ideal solution for you be to have a dropdown menu with the standard resolutions?
Thanks, Tarik.
Indeed, holding the shift button while dragging the output window corner will lock the ratio while resizing. But I would like to set this ratio in the first place, such as 16:9 or 4:3. This is desirable when re-adjusting position and size of the output window on a laptop screen after having it disconnected from an external screen. (For example: in order to work at home, without the venue projector).
I frequently have to work with different external screen output ratios. Usually, it is 16:9, but my MacBook is 16:10. After hitting ⌘-f (getting out of full-screen mode), simply dragging the output window from the external screen to my laptop and shift-dragging it to the right size is not enough: it will still not have the right ratio.
Your proposal to have a dropdown with (only) standard solutions would only work if there are also very low resolutions selectable, since high resotutions would cover most of the laptop screen…
I hope I am clear in my explanation.
Thanks for the clarification! And - I need some more clarification still
When in the Render Settings
you turn off Same as Main Window Size
and you set the ‘render size’ to 640:480 or 1280:960 you’ve effectively set the ratio to 4:3. When you set it to whatever the resolution of the output projector is, it will maintain the appropriate ratio no matter how the output window is resized.
So I’m still trying to figure out where the issue lies precisely. Is the issue that while the image maintains the correct aspect ratio, it is still an issue that the window containing this image doesn’t adhere to this ratio, filling in the extra space with black bars? In other words - that you’d like to see a mode where the black bars are omitted and the window always has the same ratio as the image?
