I’m using the ISF Shader device a lot, tweaking different versions, and the list is getting longer to scrub through. I’m very ADHD, and my file management is a nightmare.
It would be very useful to have some kind of favourites folder or tagging method to keep track of current favourites or frequent use shaders.
When you see a shader you like in the Factory folder, click the “Open Enclosing Folder” button.
Copy the shader file(s) you like to the User folder. Be aware that some shader files use both .fs and .vs files.
Re: Subfolders, though I see your point, we’d prefer not to go down this route, as we want to prevent ourselves from (re)building and having to maintain a complete browser in Max for Live. It’d be quite the rabbit hole! A way to mark shaders as a favorite would have my preference, but for now things like these are very low on our priority list (but this could change depending on user feedback).
Another option is of course to use Live’s own native preset system. Simply hit the floppy disk icon in the top right of the ISF Shader device, and you can save the device and the loaded shader as a preset, which does actually integrate with Live’s very own browser. The benefit of this method is that all other device settings (mapped dials and their current values) are stored in the preset as well.
thanks. very helpful stuff. I do of course hope that tags may be possible at some point, but I appreciate this is not a huge priority. The preset idea is great, a new way for me to think about it, but it needs me to adapt my workflow a little.
