ETC Nomad Gadet 2 DMX interface

I purchased an ETC Nomad Gadet 2 DMX interface based on a recomendation from some lighting designer friends before I saw that you only recommend the Entec interfaces - Ii guess the Gadget 2 won’t work - correct? Thanks

Hi Terry, welcome to the forum!

All supported USB DMX interfaces for Beam are listed on this page, but it pretty much comes down to a few of Enntec’s USB devices. In general we like to recommend working with Art-Net nodes, as they have proven to be more reliable than USB devices, they aren’t proprietary, and small ones can even be cheaper than USB interfaces.

The ETC Nomad Gadget 2 is proprietary hardware, so unfortunately it’s not possible for us to add support for it to Beam.

Hi Jean-Paul,
Can you recommend some Art-Net node devices that are more reliable than the Enntec USB ones?
Also can you recommend some lighting fixtures that would support them?
I was considering getting the Rockville Motionstrip. Not sure if it supported the Art-Net mode.

Hi @Rishabhrajan,

Any Art-Net node will do. Commonly available options include Enttec ODE MK3, Showtec NET-2/3 (or NET-2/5) Pocket and Chauvet DJ DMX-AN2.

Also can you recommend some lighting fixtures that would support them?

While Art-Net nodes receive DMX data via ethernet, they by design always include DMX outputs, which means you can use them to control any fixture with a DMX input, including the Rockville fixture you mention.

Thanks for this.
What are you thoughts on a setup that includes the BOTH 360 tubes which supports wireless DMX, used along with the ENTECC USB connected to the Donner wireless receiver?
Is this going to be a reliable setup for real-time control?

I have never worked with BOTH 360 tubes, so I cannot say much about those specifically. From the creative point of view, pixel bars / tubes are a quite versatile type of fixture, see this clip for some ideas.
I also don’t have direct experience with wireless DMX systems - I can imagine that can be handy in some situations, although wired DMX will always be more reliable.

As far as the interface goes, Enttec DMX USB Pro is a solid interface, but when going for reliability, an Art-Net node is a better option, as those communicate via ethernet and have an external source of power.
