Hi Team, I’m going to be doing my first show with Videosync 2 at New Years, and I was wondering about best-practice to migrate an existing Ableton set made with Videosync 1 devices.
How does it work when I open the V1-made Ableton set and then boot Videosync V2? Do I need to manually swap-in V2 devices and re-save the set?
Or, is it ok to keep using existing V1 devices and add in V2 devices when required in the future - i.e. is it ok to use a combo of V1 and V2 devices in a set?
In my current set there are many V1 devices with MIDI-mapping and Envelope Follower-dependent routing which would be a slight pain to rebuild from scratch, but if that’s whats needed to build the most up-to-date and modern showload, that’s what I’ll do!
Any advice is much appreciated!

Hey Paddy! Nice to hear from you
For starters I would simply recommend opening the Videosync 2 application with your existing Live Set, and see how things look. If all goes well, the output should be (almost) exactly the same.
Videosync 1.x devices are supported for use with Videosync 2.x, but they are not directly replaceable with 2.x devices. This is because some of the original devices don’t exist anymore, and in other devices we’ve changed parameter names, which would cause you to lose existing automation envelopes when replacing them with the 2.x devices.
So in other words, 1.x and 2.x devices can live in the same Live Set and should both work with Videosync 2. That being said, I HIGHLY recommend updating Videosync 1 to its latest version, and making sure that your Live Set only uses the newest 1.4.7 and 2.0.4 devices, as these devices include an important stability fix. Using any older version device will void the stability fix.
Release notes for Videosync: 1.4.7 and 2.0.4.
Thanks Jean-Paul, that’s very clear.
(I did slightly complicate things for myself by habitually doing “Collect All and Save…” from inside my Live showload sets, which of course squirrled a lot of out-of-date V1 plugins away into my Project Folders. But I’ve replaced them manually now with 1.4.7 versions, so I’m all up-to-date going forward.)
Cheers!
