Hello all! I just finished programming a show last night, saved everything in beam and ableton, and just tried to load everything and get it running again. For some reason, with the same settings, DMX addresses, etc. No light is happening. Beam says its connected to ableton, the monitor shows that they are supposed to be on, but the lights are not responding anymore. My interface is the ENTTEC Open DMX USB 2.0, and the lights i am working with are the Venue Tetra Bar and the ADJ VPAR PAK. The lights are on and work when being turned on manually, just not VIA DMX. I have replaced cables and that doesn’t help either. HELP!
Hey Joshua,
Sorry to hear about that! If you use the “Test Fixture” toggle (the yellow lightbulb on the left) in Beam, do the lights turns on? If yes, the problem is likely in your Live Set. In case they still do not turn on, considering you mentioned that Beam’s Monitor tab is showing DMX output, this let’s me believe your output device is configured correctly and Beam is sending DMX as expected, but it’s not reaching the lights.
If your DMX addresses, fixture profiles and fixture profile modes in Beam all still match your physical lighting setup, and things were working with the exact same setup before, my best guess is that there is an issue with your DMX interface. Please verify that the same interface is still selected and configured to the correct output universe in the Inputs/Outputs tab of Beam.
While do list is as a supported device, the Enttec Open DMX USB is an unbuffered interface, which means it relies on the computer’s CPU to generate the DMX signal. This can cause unpredictable behavior, and therefore we discourage using this specific interface in high stake situations and recommend a buffered interface instead (any other USB DMX interface on our list of supported USB interfaces, but preferably any Art-Net node).
To exclude any other potential problems, or to help confirm any of my assumptions, it would be helpful if you could share your patch (.sbf file), screenshots of Beam’s tabs (patch, inputs/outputs, monitor), and potentially your Live Set, as well as any User Fixture Profiles you use in your patch.
