New to Videosync. Installation was successful. Tried running the 2.0 Demo Set. Have consistently experienced repeated issues with it: sometimes Live crashes, sometimes Videosync loses its connection. It has never played through once without an issue, tried dozens of times during root cause investigations.
Clue: Videosync console log reports “Showsync plugins unable to receive, UDP port 35000 is in use by another application. Please fix (close Max?)”. However, sometimes Main Out can also lose connection and/or Live has also crashed several times without this message.
System: 14" MacBook Pro (2021), Apple M1 Pro chipset with integrated GPU, macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Ableton Live Suite 12.1.10 with bundled Max 8.6.5, Videosync 2.0.7, second display LG 1080p FHD connected via HDMI
I’ve done a ton of investigations, including:
- Approved only Live and Videosync connections in Norton 360 and blocked all others, in case another connection was interfering.
- Disabled Norton 360 Connection blocking, in case Norton 360 itself was interfering.
- Removed all custom Remote Scripts from my User Library, in case another Control Surface was attempting to use UDP port 35000 also.
- Removed all custom Max for Live devices from my User Library, in case one of them was also using UDP port 35000. I know some use UDP, just don’t know which ones or what port numbers unless I go through each one.
- Monitored UDP ports via “lsof -i udp” in Terminal and messages in the Max for Live window. Can only see UDP port 35000 in use when a Videosync device is loaded on a track in Live. Upon loading a Videosync device on a track, M4L udpreceiver reports that it’s bound to two ports, one of which is 35000.
- Loaded a new Live Set with only one device: a Circle Growing in a Video Simpler. Hit play. Target 60 fps. GPU load ~50%. Videosync Console Log reports the error message about another application using port 35000. Average FPS hovered close to 60fps. Min Frame Time ~14ms. Max Frame Time ~18-19ms with an occasional 24ms. Main Out remained “Connected”. Played for 10 minutes until I stopped playhead in Live. Videosync error message appears every 6 seconds, even after stopping Live’s playhead. Main Out remained connected despite error messages.
- I’ve already done the reboot/reinstall basics multiple times in case something was corrupted during the crashes.
After all of the above, Live is the only application listed as using UDP port 35000, it only appears to be active when a Videosync device is on a Live track, and I cannot find anything conflicting with it via lsof. Yet I cannot even play a very short video without this error.
Any ideas? Please help.
