first time here. Couldn’t find a similar topic that helps me.. hope I didn’t miss anything. The problem:
Since using a new laptop with Mac OS Sequia 15.6 (with Ableton Live 12 Suite) I regularly have the problem that part of the video’s don’t show. Seems to be only in arrange view with video’s just in the timeline, not in a video simpler ‘instrument’ which I also use, in session view. For instance: 4 tracks with 4 different video’s there, and only one shows, the rest stays black.
Didn’t have that problem when working with the exact same project/live set on my former Mac with Monterey. So might be a Sequoia problem? Although I read in another topic that there were no known problems with Sequoia..
Videosync is fully compatible with any version of macOS, starting at macOS Catalina, and we’re not aware of any OS related issues. However, I assume this is rather a routing issue. Could you maybe share your Live Set? Or screenshots or a screen recording thereof?
In case you haven’t already, it may be helping to check out this page of the manual, to read more about how parameters in Live’s UI can affect the video output and routing.
thanks for coming back to me so quickly! I’ll add a screenshot. I don’t thinks it’s routing because it always worked on my previous laptop (same live set), plus it also works on my new laptop now, but irregularly. So sometime it does, sometimes it doesn’t. When it doesn’t, and I close Videosync and re-open it, it somehow usually works again. It’s 4 video’s, each in their own square corner (with Transform), and when it goes wrong only video 3 (left corner below) is visible and the other 3 aren’t. They’re in a group track, so they are routed to the main group track (‘4. Chasing scenes’). Weird.. but maybe I’m missing something.
Also I’ve had to Force Quit Videosync several times since working on my new laptop with new OS..
I’ll have to to a live show with it (from January) so I hope to find out what the problem is so I can fully trust my setup..
Well, the one thing that stands out to me from the screenshots is that you are using Tempo automation with video clips on audio tracks in Arrangement View. Please make sure that all video clips have Warped enabled, otherwise they are known to cause playback glitches.
Considering having to Force Quit Videosync sometimes: you mentioned earlier that you use Video Simpler as well. Please take a look at this article discussing Video Simpler’s RAM usage. It could be that Videosync doesn’t have enough RAM available, causing it to freeze. To rule out this issue, it’s good to know how much RAM your machine has, and how much it has available while having your Live Set + Videosync open. You can view this in the Activity Monitor application for macOS, on the Memory tab. Please let me know your findings!
Aha! I now did notice that the 3rd track (which is the only one that always works) was the one with warp from the beginning and the other ones not or just partly. Changed all of them to warp, seems to work now.. (will keep trying/testing).
And very good to know about Video Simpler, I had no idea. Didn’t know there was so many articles out there either, should maybe have done more research, but didn’t know where to start with ‘videosync freezes at quitting/force quit’. I actually have THREE Video Simplers in this project, and not with very short video’s. Checked my Activity Monitor and it said ‘24,49 GB’ for Videosync and 2,42 GB for Ableton! My laptop has 24 GB RAM. Managed to get it down to 16,24 GB for Videosync by shortening the video’s. And just had to force quit Videosync again, so maybe it’s still too big.. but I really want to use these settings so I will test to see if it stays stable when playing (if it only freezes with quitting it’s not a huge problem during the live set).
Thanks a lot, you’re probable spot on with all your comments, it helped a lot.
