Beam 2.1 Black visualizer screen Mac Silicon

I did a full re-install of Beam 2.1. On Mac M5 Max Tahoe 26.6.2. After installation Live (12.4.5) is connected to Beam. When loading the Demo or the Playground, the visualiser stays black. Beam does receive the signals from Live (I can see that in the monitor). Please help

Hi Peter, could you confirm whether you’ve tried opening the Demo Set and Playground through the Beam menu in the menu bar? This is the recommended way of doing so, and should initialize the visualizer as intended.

Thx Jean-Paul for fast response. I confirm that I open de Demo set and Playground through the Beam menu. I have also attached some screenshots. When looking at the Visualizer Universes, I notice that the fixtures do not appear in the preview window.

Thanks! What resolution is your screen set to in macOS’ Settings? I’m assuming you’re on a Mac Studio with an external display. If your resolution is set to anything higher than 1920x1080, please try 1920x1080 instead and let me know whether this brings back the visualizer and Preview window.

Thx, Jean-Paul. It indeed has to do with the external display. I am on a MacBook Pro with an (old) Thunderbolt display. When I unplugged the external display, all works fine on my MacBook screen. Even when I use higher resolutions than 1920x1080. The trick that did it was to optimize for the MacBook. See attached screenshot. Your support is excellent. You can close the case. Thx again.

I have now logged this issue as a bug internally. The problem is the Capture visualizer and the fact that we ship an older version of it with Beam, which appears to be known to cause these issues on macOS Tahoe and newer when using external displays at higher resolutions.

Thank you, Jean-Paul!
